Prince William and Kate send fans into frenzy with hopes of collab with ‘US royalty’ – but it’s not the Sussexes

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have announced the Earthshot Prize 2022 award ceremony would be hosted in the United States of America following its debut in London.

As royal viewers tuned in to the inaugural prize giving on Sunday 17 October, fans were delighted by the possibility that the British Royal Family may finally join with “American royalty” for the prize in 2022. Though, fans were not referring to Prince Harry and Meghan, even though that could be a possibility.

Instead, viewers are hopeful that Kate and William will meet with the Kennedy family for the second-year of their environmentalism awards.

After all, Prince William’s Earthshot initiative was inspired by US President John F Kennedy’s 1962 Moonshot speech in which he challenged Americans to land a man in space within ten years.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, which was held at London's Alexandra Palace, William said: " “London and the UK has put on quite a show for our first year. So for the second year, we need to pass the baton to a country whose leadership is essential for all five of our Earthshots.

“Where better than the nation that inspired the Moonshot all those years ago? I’m delighted to announce that the Earthshot Prize will be heading to the United States of America in 2022.”

In September, Caroline Kennedy, the only surviving child of President Kennedy announced that the JFK Library Foundation would be a partner of the Earthshot prize, too.

Fans took to Twitter to speculate about the US and UK partnerships for the 2022 Earthshot prize.

One user wrote: "Would it be weird to make a vision board manifesting that the #EarthshotPrize2022 take place at the @JFKLibrary in Boston??? Because I think that’s my plan for tonight…"

Another fan responded: "That’s what I was thinking! Plus I’m 99 percent sure the Kennedys are going to be involved in the EarthShot prize ’22 due to it being held in the US + President Kennedy’s moonshot has influenced William’s baby so we can bet some interaction between the two dynasties."

As another replied: "The British Royal Family and The American 'Royal' Family.

“Joseph Kennedy would be jumping for joy if he found out that his SON influenced a project of the royals. Dynasty complete."

To which another fan commented: "Very true! The Kennedy’s are our Royal Family so definitely a goal completed!"

Another Royal Family fan said: "Omg I said this as soon as they announced the US, William had engagements with the Kennedy’s and I can see this happening".

As a US viewer chimed in with: "Would love to see the Cambridges in Cambridge, MA. @JFKLibrary was my first thought when I saw US next year."

Richard Palmer, a royal correspondent, tweeted: “The Earthshot Prize awards ceremony will go around the world over the next decade and tonight it was announced next year’s event will be in the US. They haven’t decided where yet but my guess is it could be somewhere linked to President Kennedy. Boston or Hyannis Port?”

He continued: “I’m not sure if the Kennedy presidential library in Boston is suitable for staging an event like this but to me would seem like a good choice.”

The Earthshot Prize was launched by Prince William and Kate with environmentalists such as David Attenborough. The initiative awards five individuals, cities or organisations £1 million in prize money every year to fund their innovative solutions to environmental issues.

The star-studded green carpet saw celebrities and royalty recycle old outfits for the event. Kate dazzled in a recycled McQueen gown, while William wore a dapper green velvet blazer.
