Piers Morgan, 56, was less than impressed after footage emerged of 78-year-old President Joe Biden appearing to be “sleeping” during the opening sessions at the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow, Scotland. After the clip was posted to Twitter, the former Good Morning Britain star admitted he wasn’t very hopeful for our future.

In the video first shared by a reporter for The Washington Post, Biden can be seen sitting with his arms crossed and his eyes closed for approximately 20 seconds.

He was listening to a speaker, who said that the world leaders in attendance have the “power to make decisions and reach agreements which will affect the lives of generations to come”.

An aide then approached and began to whisper to Mr Biden, who turned his head to listen briefly before he began listening to the speech once more.

The clip was posted online by reporter Zach Purser Brown, along with the caption: “Biden appears to fall asleep during COP26 opening speeches.”

And after watching it, Piers took to his own page to share his views.

“Jeez,” he sighed.

“Not the best look when you’re trying to tell the word to wake up.”

Many rushed to the comments section to defend Biden, wondering whether the jet lag from the flight over from the US might be to blame and to “give him a pass”.

Others also noted that they were “not surprised” due to his age and the hours he works.

Government representatives from all over the world have gathered in Glasgow to discuss green issues this week, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson using his opening address to compare the situation to James Bond trying to defuse a “doomsday device”.

Alongside Mr Johnson and Biden are Germany’s Angela Merkel and President Emmanuel Macron of France, who also gathered at the event in an attempt to foster international cooperation on climate change.

And with the conference now in full swing, Piers also took the time to respond to a video of campaigner 18-year-old Greta Thunberg, singing along to a crude song while attending the summit.

She denounced world leaders for failing to act on climate change in a foul-mouthed tirade alongside other protestors.

The teenager belted out the lyrics “shove climate change up your a**” while standing alongside fellow eco-warriors in Glasgow.

Piers retweeted the video and typed: “I like @GretaThunberg and think she’s a very effective campaigner – but she can also be very, very annoying.”

In response, fans were left divided over the former GMB presenter’s comments.

@Mountainlady7 typed: “@GretaThunberg I don’t like her at all. She is never mentioned in Norway.”

@mmhiggins7 responded: “Why doesn’t she have a one on one debate with a climate scientist.

“Love to see it. She is to climate as Jake Paul is to boxing… only relevant because of social media”

@StuartM93716044 commented: “I love the way she’s so relevant at a young age, you could only dream eh?”

While TauTao said: “It seems that she would know where to tell you to shove this comment.”
