BBC Breakfast favourite Naga Munchetty, 46, was less than impressed with her BBC Radio 5 Live co-star Nihal Arthanayake, 49, when he admitted he was falling asleep during her show, which airs just before his. Naga was having a debate with Caroline Aston, who is a broadcaster and features writer for royalty magazine Majesty, about comments CBS News host Gayle King, 66, had made following a conversation with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

It comes after Gayle, a friend of the Duchess of Sussex, revealed on her CBS breakfast show The Morning that talks between Harry and Prince Charles have been “unproductive” following the couple’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey.

However, Nihal admitted the royal chat was putting him to sleep in a very cheeky conversation with Naga.

Naga began by introducing her colleague onto the airwaves, saying: “1 o’clock is when my colleague Nihal takes over.

“You’ve got a minute and a half to get ready, have you got your prep done Nihal?”

Listeners could then hear a slight delay, as Nihal seemed to be unaware he was on-air.

The baffled presenter could be heard muttering: “Is the mic on, has she put…Oh, am I here?”

“Yeah!” Naga exclaimed in response to her co-star’s confusion.

Nihal then explained: “Oh sorry I was half asleep, I was just having my snooze.”

The BBC Breakfast host seemed stunned by Nihal’s revelation, hitting back: “Half asleep at a minute to one?”

“Yeah I always have a snooze until that time,” he replied.

Making her feelings known on the matter, Naga scolded Nihal and sternly said: “Seriously? You have a snooze during my programme?”

Nihal tried to defend his actions, interjecting: “Well, no…”

“You have a snooze during my programme?” a shocked Naga repeated.

Fortunately, Nihal then made the BBC star laugh as he explained his drowsy reaction to her show was down to his lack of interest in news about the Royal Family.

Continuing their banter, Nihal admitted: “Only when talking about royal stuff, it sends me straight to sleep!”

After chuckling away at her colleague’s admission, Naga questioned how Nihal had managed to get away with avoiding discussions about the royals on his show in recent weeks.

She quizzed: “Have you not spoken about it once on your programme in the last 10 days?

“How did you get away with that? We’ve got the same editor!”

Nihal replied: “No, I think we did a bit…

“Well, I don’t know, we have very different types of shows I guess!”

Naga seemed to dispute Nihal’s claims, jokingly saying: “Come on! No, no, no!

“This is going to lead to an editorial meeting, you, me, our editor, as to exactly how the work is divvied up in terms of what we’re allowed to discuss and what we get not to discuss.”
