Max Verstappen, 24, has made Formula One history today, beating Lewis Hamilton, 36, in the controversial Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The new world champion made sure to celebrate his victory with his girlfriend Kelly Piquet, 33.

Max could be seen by all those watching the amazing finale marking his big moment with his partner.

The pair embraced as he celebrated his sensational win against Lewis, making him the world champion.

Kelly is the daughter of Formula One legend Nelson Piquet, with the pair announcing their relationship last year.

Max clinched his first Drivers’ Championship title ahead of Lewis by winning the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in a historic end to a thrilling season.

The 24-year-old managed to pass his Mercedes rival on the final lap after a last-gasp safety car period, in what is likely to be remembered as the most controversial finish to any Formula One race in history.

Lewis began the race behind Max on the front row of the grid but made a flying start to take the lead into Turn One.

They went on to make contact with each other in Turn Five in another controversial twist to this season’s tale, but the incident was not investigated by the race stewards.

Lewis kept his advantage and began to pull away from Max, who was simply not quick enough to lay a glove on his opposite number for the majority of the contest.
