Megadeth have announced that the heavy metal band is parting ways with co-founding member David Ellefson following a sex video scandal.
“We are informing our fans that David Ellefson is no longer playing with Megadeth and that we are officially parting ways with him. We do not take this decision lightly,” frontman Dave Mustaine said in a statement Monday.
“While we do not know every detail of what occurred, with an already strained relationship, what has already been revealed is enough to make working together impossible moving forward,” the co-founder of the thrash metal band added, referring to reports of sexually explicit videos and messages featuring the bassist with a woman.
“We look forward to seeing our fans on the road this summer, and we cannot wait to share our brand new music with the world. It’s almost complete,” the band tweeted.
Ellefson, who co-founded the group with Mustaine in 1983, has denied allegations on social media that he “groomed” an underage fan.
