Kimberley Walsh says Girls Aloud are ‘not even thinking about’ reunion after Sarah Harding’s death

Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh has revealed that the band's reunion has been halted since the tragic death of their beloved member Sarah Harding.

The group are due to celebrate the 20th anniversary of when Girls Aloud was formed next year, and plans were reportedly in motion for a special event to mark the occasion.

Sarah's death at the age of 39 following her breast cancer diagnosis in 2020 has now changed all that.

The band shot to fame after being scouted and winning Popstars: The Rivals in 2002, an ITV talent competition.

The group consisted of Kimberley, Sarah, Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts and Cheryl, who recently pulled out of events as she described her loss following her friend's death.

Speaking in a new interview about the group's plans, Kimberley, 39, shared that no one is in the right "headspace" for a reunion right now.

"It’s not really something we’re even thinking about obviously, with the situation as it is," she told The Sun.

"No one is even in that headspace right now."

Sarah's death on September 5 was devastating for the whole band, who shared their grief with poignant tributes and messages of love for their old friend and former bandmate on social media.

The group had recently reconnected with meet-up in the Cotswolds, where they shared memories and support for Sarah who was battling cancer at the time.

The reunion plans were made following Sarah's decision to make her diagnosis public in August last year, as all five women put any issues they'd had aside to remember the incredible achievements and memories they'd celebrated together in the band.

The group split up in 2013 after becoming one of the most popular girlbands of the 2000s with smash hits including Sound of the Underground, Call the Shots and Something Kinda Ooooh.

They celebrated 21 top 10 singles and had four No. 1 chart songs.

Tragedy has brought the group closer together and Nadine even moved closer to Kimberley in recent years.

The pair now reside in London and often catch up and arrange get togethers.

Fans will have to wait and see if the band reunite for their 20th anniversary.
