Katie Price checked into the Priory for ‘severe trauma rehabilitation’ after struggling with receiving vile abuse online.
The 42-year-old checked into the facility back in January before lockdown, saying that she had slowly been ‘going off the rails for 10 years’.
While the reality star admitted she turned to cocaine and alcohol to cope with her mother Amy’s terminal lung illness, she stressed that substance abuse was never the reason for her checking into The Priory.
Speaking to the Mirror, she called her decision to enter the facility ‘the best thing I’ve ever done’, saying: ‘I went to The Priory and booked in and said, “I don’t want to leave here, I want to be an inpatient, help me to sort out my head, this is my last chance to do it, I don’t want to die, I don’t want to kill myself, help me”.’
Katie added: ‘I was in The Priory because it’s a build up of all this s**t that I’ve had, this abuse, this mental abuse.
‘I was never in The Priory for drink or drugs – ever! It was severe trauma rehabilitation, and I still speak to the doctor weekly now because that’s what I want to do because there are lots of things that have gone on in my past that led me up to that.’
The Priory is one of the most famous rehab facilities in the world, and provides treatment for mental illness, alcohol rehabilitation, drug rehabilitation and eating disorders.
While the group treats thousands of patients a year, flagship facility in Roehampton is known for often hosting famous patients.
The mother-of-five left inpatient treatment earlier this year and says that the stint put her mental health back on track.
Since then, she has met new partner Carl Woods, and calls the former Love Island star the love of her life.
However, Katie has had a rough year since leaving treatment.
Her 18-year-old son Harvey was hospitalised with breathing difficulties and chest pains, and spent 10 days in intensive care.
Shortly after this, Katie came under scrutiny after her daughter Princess’s dog was killed after getting stuck in the mechanism of an electric armchair at her house.
Then, the former glamour model suffered ‘life-changing injuries’ after breaking both of her feet while holidaying in Turkey.
Katie underwent major surgery and is expected to spend the rest of the year in a wheelchair as she recovers.
The star has been warned to keep the weight off her feet until April by doctors.
A source previously told The Sun: ‘She was showing how she can stand on her toes, she’s desperate to get back on her feet.
‘But, the doctor said if she doesn’t take his advice seriously, she could ruin her chances of recovering.’
