Peter Andre has defended Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury’s "cute" name for their newborn daughter – Bambi.
The former Love Island stars had a mixed reaction to their choice of name, with some fans saying they absolutely love the moniker and others saying it sounds too much like a ‘Disney character’.
But in his exclusive column, Peter said he can’t bash alternative names as his son and daughter with his first wife, Katie Price, have unusual names.
Pete revealed: “Molly Mae Hague and Tommy Fury split opinion last week by naming their baby girl Bambi. Now, I am not one to talk about giving your child an alternative name when my kids are called Princess and Junior!
“However, a child’s name is a personal choice. Bambi is a cute little deer, at the end of the day! I just think, why not? It’s up to them. Everyone else can have their opinion but it’s irrelevant.
He added: “Molly Mae and Tommy show me there are some great things about Love Island because they’ve stayed together and been hugely successful. All power to them! If they love the name Bambi, that’s all that matters.
When Princess was born in 2007, Peter and Katie said they chose the first part of her name because she was "our princess". Then Peter came up with Princess’ middle name – Tiaamii ,which is a combination of both his mother's name (Thea) and Katie's mother's name (Amy).
"Katie always loved the name Princess but everyone thought it was a bit over the top," Pete told OK! in 2007.
"I loved it too but I wanted to name her after both our mums. Then I just woke up one morning and thought, 'I know! We’ll just put them together! If people don’t like it, that’s up to them.'"
Princess also has a nickname – Bista – which Pete frequently uses. In 2012, he tweeted fans to explain Princess’ quirky nickname, which stemmed from Princess’ older brother, Junior being unable to say the word ‘sister’ when he was younger.
Pete – who also has daughter Amelia, nine and son Theo, six with his wife Emily Andre – wrote: “Ok bista is called bista because when J was younger he couldnt say sister only bista 🙂
Meanwhile, Ulrika Jonsson also defended Molly and Tony after they came under fire for the tot's name and splashed out £8K for newborn daughter Bambi's cot.
The 55-year-old slammed people who criticised the influencer for their ‘envy’ and said she is entitled to spend her money as she pleases.
Ulrika said: “She is getting trolled for calling the newborn Bambi – but I think, why not? It’s sweet enough.
“Of course, much of the criticism is based on envy. Molly-Mae is entitled to do whatever she wants with her money.”
She added: “Mere mortals can only dream of a nursery like little Bambi’s, who will be utterly oblivious to the overindulgence surrounding her.”
