News of Meghan Markle’s surprise pregnancy is rocking the royal world (and all those obsessed with it). The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, announced their soon-to-be second baby on Valentine’s Day 2021, sharing with the world the happy news via spokesperson and an accompanying black-and-white photo of the couple laying in the grass to highlight Meghan’s baby bump.
Harry and Meghan married in 2018 and, just a year later, the happy couple welcomed their firstborn, a son named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. The pair has had a whirlwind two years, with the Duke and Duchess stepping down from their royal duties and moving to California to raise their son.
In November 2020, Meghan opened up about her previous miscarriage in a New York Times Op-Ed. The piece was seen as an open door for women who shared the Duchess’ pain and marked a stunning departure from Meghan’s typical yearning to keep her personal matters out of the press.
Now, without much detail given the couple’s departure from social media, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are sharing the Duchess’ new baby bump for the first time — something she surprisingly managed to keep hidden during previous press engagements.
Here's how Meghan Markle hid her baby bump from the cameras
Missing from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s second pregnancy announcement were details of the gender and due date of their baby. Despite fans’ attempts to calculate the due date based off the size of Meghan’s bump alone, the Duchess’ ability to hide her growing belly has made the speculation process a bit difficult.
Back in December 2020, Markle was seen publicly in a pre-recorded video for CNN Heroes, according to The Daily Mail. Yet, the Duchess could have easily hidden her bump at the time, as the segment was recorded from the waist up. Then, just a week prior to announcing the new baby, Meghan took part in a Black History Month event with the poetry group Get Lit. In the video appearance, only Meghan’s shoulders and face were visible.
During the Duchess’ first pregnancy, Meghan’s pregnancy style became a topic of conversation as the royal family prepared for a new royal member. Given the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s plight for more privacy after stepping down from their royal roles, it’s doubtful fans will get a look inside their second pregnancy until the announcement of the birth.
