After Portsmouth Police confirmed they had arrested a 15-year-old boy on suspicion of an offence under the Animal Welfare Act 2006, Gemma Atkinson, 34, hit out at the individual following a video which showed a boy kicking a cat after coaxing it to come closer to him. “Just been informed that little nasty b*****d filmed kicking the little cat has been caught!” the actress told her 263,000 Twitter followers. “Kinda hoping the locals deal with him as well as the authorities. If that was my pet.. Jeez,”(sic) she added.

Gemma soon came under fire from Twitter users for her comment, with one insisting: “Stupid thing to say, seeing as the offender was a 15 year old kid.
“How about letting the police deal with him?”
“15 isn’t young!” she snapped back. “I’m sorry but a 5 year old would know to do that is wrong!
“My close friend works with abused children and almost ALL of their offenders started on animals until they got bored.
“They are sick,” she said. “So yeh, I do hope he’s taught a serious lesson.”(sic)
However, several more social media users were opposed to Gemma’s outburst, with another tweeting: “Please don’t encourage ‘locals deal’ with him, that’s basically inciting vigilantism.”
“Wanting revenge makes you as bad as that individual,” a third said. “The police have him in custody and the legal system will deal with him as appropriate.
“He will have a criminal record which will score him over in terms of applying for certain jobs.”
Others appeared to share Gemma’s anger, one writing: “So relieved, watched the video once, cried for a while, people who hurt animals deserve a special kind of hell.”
“So pleased they caught him! I hope he gets what he deserves,” another said.
Elsewhere, Gemma Atkinson sparked engagement rumours with her boyfriend Gorka Marquez, 28, after flashing a diamond ring on Instagram.
The former Hollyoaks star uploaded a picture of herself enjoying a meal at Old Trafford for the Manchester United Foundation.
The shot showed Gemma beaming as she held up a beverage, a sparkling ring visible on her finger.
Fans took to the comments section to speculate about whether she and Gorka, who are expecting their first baby together, might be set to tie the knot, with one simply saying: “Engaged???”
“Spotted a ring!” another exclaimed. “Looking gorgeous as ever!”
A third added: “Do you have an announcement to share? Whopper of a ring there.”
Gemma first met Strictly Come Dancing professional Gorka when she took joined the celebrity line-up on the BBC show in 2017.
They confirmed their romance in February 2018 and announced they were expecting a baby earlier this year.
