Corrie’s Millie Gibson celebrates huge new role with Christmas shopping spree

Coronation Street star Millie Gibson enjoyed the festive spirit earlier today (December 9) as she headed out for some shopping at the Manchester Christmas markets.

The actress, 18, who will be swapping the cobbles for the TARDIS as she joins the Doctor Who cast next year, was snapped out at the markets, seemingly doing some Christmas shopping.

Millie wrapped up warm as she donned a long white coat, featuring a faux fur lining. She paired this with a pair of light blue jeans, a white t-shirt, and a pair of white boats.

She kept her short hair down as she accessorised with a pair of gold hoop earrings, and wore some white headphones around her neck.

Speaking about her new role, Millie said: "It is a gift of a role, and a dream come true, and I will do everything to try and fill the boots the fellow companions have travelled in before me."

She also mentioned her soon-to-be co-star Ncuti Gatwa when chatting about the role, revealing that she’s really looking forward to working with him, especially on such a classic show.

“What better way to do that than being by the fabulous Ncuti Gatwa's side, I just can't wait to get started," she added.

Earlier this year Millie filmed her final Coronation Street scenes, which she says left her feeling "emotional" as she burst into tears on set.

She told reporters: "I've been a wreck. If you ask anyone, there were a good two weeks where I was just crying constantly just because I think I was just so overwhelmed, and so grateful of the scenes and the storyline that had been given to me but there's a specific scene that sticks out to me."

After filming the emotional scenes Millie went for leaving drinks as she headed to The Alchemist bar in Salford Quays with her Corrie colleagues.

She was joined for the occasion by Mikey North and Samia Longchambon, who play her on-screen guardians Gary and Maria Windass.

The trio were joined by Coronation Street legends Chris Gascoyn and Daniel Brocklebank as they all said their farewells to their departing co-star.

Reports of Millie’s exit from the soap came after the star spoke to OK! about her desire to film more action scenes on the show.

“I loved watching how the fight arranger planned it all out,” she said. “I’d love to do more – I’d be well up for that!”
