It was a night of celebrations for the stars of Coronation Street after the soap scooped all three gongs at the TV Choice Awards for the second year in a row.

The awards ceremony, which was hosted by Rob Beckett and held virtually, saw the ITV soap win Best Soap Actor, Best Soap Actress and the big one – Best Soap.

Corrie beat their big rivals EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks to the coveted award, while Sally Carman won Best Soap Actress and David Neilson won Best Soap Actor.

Sally triumphed for her moving performance as grieving mum Abi Franklin in the soap, which celebrated its 60th anniversary in December.

Abi’s son Seb was beaten to death in heartbreaking scenes aired in May and viewers were brought to tears by Sally’s performance.

The 40 year old joined the long-running programme in 2017 and is engaged to her co-star Joe Duttine, who plays Tim Metcalfe.

The pair were due to tie the knot this Decemeber, but back in May Sally revealed they had decided to postpone their nuptials due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Sally thanked her parents as she accepted her award as well as Joe and said: "I love you!"

Meanwhile, David Neilson, who has played the legendary Roy Cropper since 1995, beat off stiff competition from EastEnders star Danny Dyer, Emmerdale’s Bradley Johnson and his co-star Chris Gascoyne, who plays Peter Barlow.

Roy’s niece Nina Lucas was also attacked by the same thugs who killed Seb, but she survived the brutal attack.

Nina recently started to remember what happened during the attack and fans were left with “goosebumps” as Seb returned to the cobbles in a series of flashback scenes with Nina.

It’s the second year in a row that the show has scooped all three prizes. Last year Jack P Shepherd won Best Soap Actor, Shelley King won Best Soap Actress and the programme won Best Soap.

Shelley was once again nominated this year for her performance as domestic abuse victim Yasmeen Metcalfe. Yasmeen was suffered both emotional and physical abuse by her husband Geofff Metcalfe until his death in December.

Geoff, who was played by Ian Bartholomew, met his match on the soap’s 60 th anniversary and fell to his death from a roof.

Sally was also up against 20 year old Emmerdale star Isobel Steele and EastEnders actress Kellie Bright, who is expecting her third child.
