Throughout the past year of the coronavirus pandemic, Asians and Asian Americans in the United States have experienced an onslaught of anti-Asian hate and harassment. Now, after a series of violent incidents over the past several months, celebrities and activists are speaking up and denouncing the blatant racism and attacks across the nation.
On Monday night, the South Korean boy band BTS released their own statement condemning the rise in anti-Asian hate, posting with the hashtags #StopAsianHate and #StopAAPIHate. On Twitter, Jimin, Jungkook, V, J-Hope, Jin, RM, and Suga wrote that they took “considerable time” and “contemplated deeply” how to use their platform, and the resulting statement is deeply personal and intimate.
