Britney Spears shared a video of herself getting a tattoo in a hotel room on Wednesday, which soon led to rumours that it was for her ex boyfriend Justin Timberlake – but she has now set the record straight about what it was for.
Around the time she shared the video of her getting her new tattoo, she also posted a photo of her and Justin from 2001, when they were dating. However, she has now deleted the photo of her and her ex.
The pair were sporting matching jerseys in the photo that was taken at a charity basketball game.
She began her now-deleted caption: "When we used to shoot hoops TOGETHER … that’s when miracles happened."
And she went on to add a cryptic message about being "cast out," saying: "I came out of my mom’s stomach just like we all did !!! Psss … why always cast me out ??? I’m equal as all !!!"
The coincidence of the two posts being uploaded so close together made fans wonder if the mystery tattoo, which the singer has yet to show off, was for her ex Justin.
However, Britney has now come out to reveal that she got her tattoo for herself and not for "an ex in the past".
She shared in a message on her Instagram Stories: "Just to clarify… my tattoo had nothing to do with an ex in the past !!!
"I simply did it because I wanted to !!! The pic with my ex is a time where there was less confusion on what it meant to be together … it is what it is !!!"
Since getting the tattoo earlier this week, Britney has revealed that she already regrets it. She took to the caption of the video to share that she'll need to get it "fixed".
"Tattoo in Maui 3 days ago!!!" she started the post with three funny face emojis. "Can’t show it because it sucks !!!" alongside three crying with laughter emojis.
She continued: "Like really really sucks !!! S**t !!!," followed by three see no evil monkey emojis, before adding: "Psss … I have to fix it !!!" with three rolling eyes emojis.
Britney already has at least nine tattoos, including a triangle on her right hand, dice on her left forearm, a butterfly on her foot and a fairy on her lower back.
Last month, Britney made a comeback to Instagram after having previously deactivated her account.
She regained control of her social media accounts in 202, which saw the end of her conservatorship.
