Criminal Minds actor Daniel Henney, 41, has described the “unique relationship” that his character has with Rosamund Pike’s character during the course of the show. In an interview at the UK premiere of The Wheel of Time, the star spoke to Express.co.uk and other journalists about the bond between their characters ahead of the show’s launch on Amazon Prime.
When asked what sets The Wheel of Time apart from other fantasy shows such as HBO’s Game Of Thrones or Netflix’s The Witcher, Daniel spoke about the “unique relationships” between characters in the series.
“I think it’s the relationships between our characters that are very unique,” the actor said.
“Especially, like, I can talk about Rosamund and I. Our relationship, the Aes Sedai-warder bond.
“The women in The Wheel of Time world, they have this powerful organisation called the Aes Sedai,” Daniel explained.
He went on to reveal that his character takes on the role of protector for Moiraine, who is portrayed by Rosamund, 42.
He said: “She (Rosamund) is not the head, obviously, but she’s a very powerful Aes Sedai and they bond with a male figure to protect them.
The star went on to clarify: “It’s not sexual, it’s not romantic, but they’re like a married couple and they sort of co-exist in this life together.
“I talked to Ros about it many times and it’s one of the most interesting male/female relationships that you’re going to see on screen,” he stated.
“In the first episode you’ll see that showcased in really interesting ways.
“It’s the way Robert Jordan wrote these characters and how interesting their dynamic and their connection is.
“I think that’s very different and it’s so incredibly detailed, so that’s what I’m excited for people to see,” he concluded.
The Wheel of Time is an American epic fantasy show based on a book series of the same name written by Robert Jordan.

In the show Rosamund plays Moiraine, who is a member of a powerful magic-wielding organisation, the Aes Sedai.
In the story, Moiraine takes a group of five young people on a journey around the world, believing one of them might be the reincarnation of the Dragon, a powerful individual prophesied to either save the world, or destroy it.
Daniel plays al’Lan (Lan) Mandragoran, former Warder to Moiraine Damodred and greatest swordsman of the Third Age.
While shooting for The Wheel of Time had been meant to last nine months, due to the pandemic, it ended up going on for three whole years.
During that period, the cast and crew spent a large amount of time holed up together in their remote Czech Republic shooting location.
Daniel and Rosamund’s fellow star Josha Stradowski, 24, also gave a candid interview on the red carpet about dynamics between the cast while they were stuck on set for longer than expected.
Josha plays one of the story’s central protagonists, Rand al’Thor, who is the reincarnation of Lews Therin Telamon, and heir to his role.
The young actor described how his co-stars had “great chemistry” throughout filming and said that they “got along from the start”.
“We were all stuck in our apartments but we had each other and that meant we grew closer,” he reflected.
The Wheel of Time premiered its first three episodes on Amazon Prime Video on Friday 19th November 2021.
